DUKE

DUKE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!

DUKE was rescued from the Marion County Humane Society in Fairmont WV on 1-3-03.  He had been at the shelter since 10-3-02 and because of his size, had not had anyone interested in adopting him.  He was placed on the URGENT list and would have been euthanized if a rescue did not come for him.  I saw DUKE and loved the way he looked and said, "Let's bring him here!"

DUKE is making great progress in his foster home.  He is getting more and more socialization and training.  Currently DUKE is attending obedience class and being trained with a clicker.  His foster mom says he is a big hunk of love who practically wants to crawl under your skin.  He loves attention, other dogs.  He does not understand how large he is and so an adopter would need to know, although sweet, he is big.  He has made great progress in housetraining and cratetraining.  He is still wary with men but normally warms up in a short while.  He is protective when he is in his own home and will bark at strangers.  Still too big for young kids, would be fine with older kids.  Still NO CATS!

DUKE is about 1 year old, he is a Boxer-Shepherd Mix.  Duke is a Large dog, meaning he weighs around 70-75 lbs.  He is UTD on his shots and has been Wormed.  He is Neutered and HW tested negative.  He is currently in foster care learning some manners, though right now he knows sit, stay, down, paw and will fetch.  He loves rawhides and giving kisses.
DUKE was thrilled to get out of the shelter and ran around in the snow for awhile!  He also took his bath with politeness and loved being scrubbed down.  DUKE appears to be good with other dogs, he is too big for small children at this time, he would be good with older kids.  NO CATS!!!!  He chased my fosters cat with a fury!!!  He is a sweetie once he meets you but can be protective of the people he knows are taking care of him.  He is still a puppy and acts likes one, loves being loved.  We will be posting more information on DUKE as we get to know him.  He had no accidents in the house yet and went to door and sat when he wanted out.  Unknown about crating.  He rode well in the car but pulls on the leash, we will be working on that!!!  Duke is going to another foster in two weeks with a trainer of large dogs,so we are expecting GREAT things from this GREAT dog!  Check back soon for updates.
